Civil Rights Movement

The name Rip Curl is synonymous with all things surf and snow, and in this radical collection of footage, you'll find the best of both. Top surfing, snowboarding and skiing action from some of the most picturesque locations in the world, including Indonesia, Mexico, Tahiti and New Zealand.

From great mid-air shots of snowboarders and skiers with crisp blue sky backdrops and whiter-than-white snow, to breath-taking camera work tracking new breed surfers through major tubes. Most of the quality high speed footage is shot on Super 16mm film (not edited as 'slow-mo' but actually shot that way).

There are also many shots showing local kids, markets, landscapes and seascapes. This footage was shot intentionally on Super8 film, then telecined, which further adds to the dynamics of the sport. Also featured are loads of snowboarding stunts including 180 to 720 degree jumps (using ramps, half-pipes and quarter-pipes) from some of the sport's hottest young talent.

World Media Rights (Nugus Martin)

The World Media Rights (Nugus Martin) archive is a historically important collection of footage that predates the BBC's archive—by 50 years. The collection began in 1896 recording political and social change through the turn of the century. And the camera continued rolling for decades, capturing both world history and Americana with an unflinching eye and a knack for being in the right place at the right moment. Clips include Lenin addressing Russian crowds, Hitler rousing troops, Al Capone and "Machine Gun" Kelly and rare footage of Albert Einstein.

Chronicling both war and peacetime, from politics to celebrity, the Nugus / Martin archive is a moving testiment to the power of film.
